Most of the information I keep seeing is for taking a cruise.  Are there people that ride just to get to a destination?  It would seem entirely cool to ride a freighter instead of a plane.  My target destination is Liverpool UK but I can leave from Savanna GA (USA) all the way up to Philadelphia PA (USA).  Just wanted to know if it was possable.

When you see the word 'Cruise' used in reference to freighters, you must not think in terms of a regular cruise liner - it is nothing like it.

Plenty of people travel by freighter simply as a way of getting from A to B - people who hate flying for example - freighter agents report that their phones usually start ringing off the hook after a major air disaster!

Other people travel by freighter simply for the pleasure of the voyage - the destination is not really important - these type of people would almost certainly consider their trip to be a cruise.

Whatever your reasons for taking a freighter, everyone will be onboard the same ship - there are not different types of voyages available for people who want a cruise and people who just want a journey from A to B.
