My husband and myself intend going to Alaska to live for six months through winter in Sept 05.  Does anyone have info on a freighter we could take.  We live in Brisbane, Oz, but realise we will have to most probably go elsewhere to pick up a ship. Anywhere in Oz, New Zealand of south Asia we could manage.  Freighter magazines, it seems, are only available to those resident in the US and it's hard to get info here.   Thanks,   Gail

Gail

The only advice I can give is to shop around several agents for advice on available services - although I will say that alaska is a bit off the main trans-pacific routes, so you will probably be struggling.

You'll have a far easier time getting a ship to Vancouver.

As far as freighter magazines go, most of the main agents have something like that - I'm sure they will mail them worldwide - they would be losing quite a lot of business if they only mailed them to US addresses.

Hi Gail, Look at websites (through google) of Freighterworld, Travltips, Cruise People, You could take a freighter to LA then a cruise ship Alaska before the re-positionings in Sept.
Luna ---- Hi to Steve, hope I can figure out how to post and read on this site. I am not very cyber savy! Also I have been snowed in and no way to get ourt to use library computers. I dont have one because I travel on freighters all the time...
