Hello all

I am a 20 year old college student living in Brooklyn.

I remember thinking about whether or not people travel by ship anywhere these days, as air travel is so common and efficient. After some research, I stumbled upon this world of freighter travel.

My main goal is to get from NYC to Melbourne Australia.

I already did a bunch of reading on the subject from the freighterman website, and some other online sources.

If anyone has done this trip, or just has any words of wisdom and advice, it is much appreciated!

thanks! and I'll be posting again soon  Grin

Hi there,
I was fortunate enough to travel from London to Melbourne via Panama in Feb/March this year on the CMA CGM ship Matisse. We came to New York as one of our ports and actually dropped off a passenger there. I suggest that you have a look at CMA CGM's website to check out their intineraries. They have a fortnightly service from London to Melbourne which takes 46 days.Their ship's take up to six passengers although there were only two of us for most of the time. My other passenger from Savannah to Melbourne was an ex USAF fellow oringinally from Brooklyn. We had a great time.Good luck with your enquiries.

For schedule go to CMA CGM website and look up liner services and then the Europe/Oceanea PAD service. There it lists the ships and their next dozen or so sailings.
It is probably better to engage a travel agent though like Maris. Good luck
