Travelling From South Africa To England

Hi, I have tried working this out for myself but have been very unsuccessful.
I basically would like to go from South Africa to England, is that possible? Do I pay for just that part of the journey?
As I am a relatively poor student, is freighter travel any cheaper?
The cost of plane ticket being around £500 probably more depending on dates.
Sorry for the silly questions, but any help would be very much appreciated.

The cheapest possible freighter would be a tramp service from Oldendorff - at around US$50 per day, you would be looking at around $700 for a one way trip - by the time you had also paid various compulsary port taxes and deviation insurance, you won't have much change left from $1000

If all you are interested in is saving money, you will need to take the plane I'm afraid.

Following the demise of Safmarine and PO Nedloyd passenger / freighter services last year, you are only left w/ these options: DAL, Mare Schiffahrtsgesellschaft, MACS, Colombia Shipmanagement and NSB (who do SA - Germany) ..

however you won't get a passage on one of these liners for under probably 1200 GBP ..
