India to East Africa (or vice versa) enquiry

I have just discovered the world of freighter travel but I cannot seem to find this route anywhere. Can someone please help me?

I am trying to recreate a journey that was taken many times by my family between India and Kenya postwar and pre 1970. This seemed like a regular service via steamer, but now nothing seems to exist.

I understand that these waters are prone to pirate attack (recent media coverage) is that why there is nothing available?
