Hello,

This is a very interesting forum.  Thank you to those who maintain it.

I'm going to be sailing from the US to Spain one-way this summer.  Instead of catching a flight home, I'm considering taking a freighter back.  I'd like to be able to come back pretty directly and also soon after reaching Spain.  In a perfect world, we'd pull into port and I'd unload my gear from the sailboat and load it on the freighter and head back directly to North America.  How often do freighters leave?  How likely is it that I could catch a freighter within a few days of landing in Spain?

I suppose that I could take the Eurorail to somewhere else in order to catch a freighter that's ready to leave.

I've sent an email to Hamburg Süd already.  Any other suggestions on who to contact or how to figure out if this is doable?  Thank you,

TMB

Hi! There are freighters from Barcelona to the US. I am guessing you cannot commit ahead to a firm date if you are sailing over.

I suggest you also contact The Cruise People (London Office). If you find a shipping line that has frequent sailings you can get all paperwork and fees taken care of in advance (with a cancellation policy in place). Then it would be possible to get you onboard with short notice. They will work with you. It is necessary in today's world to have documents signed and medical clearance in advance.

There might be a time lag but Spain is a fine place to wait!  Good luck in the sail!
