Do not want to fly.  Interested in a new way to travel.  I am planning on getting to Europe from US or Canada.  Would like a trip to Europe and back approximately 3 weeks apart.  Is this type of trip possible?  How do I go about doing this?

Interested in hearing from anyone that has tried to split the journey to and from Europe.  We are more than happy to go to and from using different companies.

Thanks.

Hi

You have two options here ...

1 You book two completely separate 'one way' freighter voyages - one from the US to Europe and another from Europe to the US.

This would probably be the most flexible option, but may work out slightly more expensive - if a one way ticket is priced at more than half the return fare.

2 You book with one shipping line - but you get a layover.

For example, a particular service, with 2-3 different vessels serving it, has departures roughly every 3 weeks. You take one ship to Europe, spend 3 weeks there - and then jump on the next vessel in the rotation for the return journey.

Many shipping lines are happy to do this, if they have the cabin availability - but it will be harder to arrange during busy periods

Contact the agents for detailed advice.
