Europe (the Med) - to - India or Thailand

Hi, I have a few questions....

1) Is it cheaper to book with a freighter company directly rather than through a travel agent?
2) Is it possible to book a voyage with a week or two notice?
3) Does anyone know of company that goes from Europe (the Med) to India or Thailand?
4) Would this route be dangerous because it passes Somalia?

Hi Andrew,
1. Not cheaper with company. Some have passenger departments, some will refer you to booking agencies.
2. Not likely you can book at really short notice. But if you have all paperwork, visas, shots, etc. in place it never hurts to ask.
3. Hamburg-Sud    49-40-389177-753    has a ship to India -voyage HSR-5-05.
4. Any ship that goes near Somalia is at risk.

Hamburg-Sud said that they do not offer one-way trip from Europe to India. I am still looking for someone else.

Okay, it pretty universal that India, for security reasons, has now closed ports to any passenger disembarkation. So you can not take a freighter to India. BUT I am wondering if you can get one to Sri lanka?
