Freighter Travel From Melbourne To Bangkok

First of all hello to everyone on this site i have just found this site i hope someone can help me to find what im after.
I’m in need of some help with some information of travelling as a passenger on a cargo ship from Australia to Asia.
I’m after a passage on a cargo ship from Melbourne or Sydney Australia to Singapore or Bangkok Thailand. Would it be possible to complete this trip for under AUD$1500 including port fees and taxes?
If so what immigration issues will I face with a one-way ship arrival like this?
Are there any ships that run directly to one of Bangkok’s ports Thailand?
Can any ship be booked for passenger travel on the Melbourne to Singapore or Melbourne to Malaysia or Melbourne to Bangkok route? This includes Asian shipping lines and other European shipping lines.
I hope you can help me as I’m a bit stuck on whom to talk to regarding this kind of travel.
Thanking you in advance for your help

Reederei F. Laeisz G.m.b.H. offers service between Australia and Singapore. Sydney to Singapore is 16 days at a cost of 1,360 euro. Any of the agents that Matz listed will be able to help you. If you are curently in Australia you might want to try Freighter Travel NZ.
Tnx, Corky

There is also the Theodor Storm, which sails from Melbourne via Adelaide and Fremantle to Port Kelang. The fare is about the same as with the Laeisz vessel.
If you enter Singapore all shipping companies require proof of onward or return ticket before boarding while entering a Malaysian port seems to be easier.
And Port Kelang is closer to Bangkok as well :-)
For a full summary of vessels sailing between southern Australia an South East Asia you can contact me for detailed advice via our booking form on FreighterTrips.com (see link in my signature). As much as I know, the ANL SPIRIT would be a fairly cheap option to take, too.
