Your best bet is to contact a freighter travel agency such as The Cruise People Ltd, Maris Cruises. There are a couple of possibilities from Boston to Felixstowe. The only one to Liverpool I know of is from Philadelphia.

Hello everyone, I'm looking for a trip from Montreal to Liverpool because I want to go to Ireland. I've call HL and they says they dont get passengers to get aboard. I've call OOCL too and they say the same thing. Some company says they stop doing this. I've call many place around here and I'm having a hard time booking my trip.. but it's only for october or november so I will continue my search. Can someone know where should I book my trip ? I've read a lot on this kind of adventure and I think I cant miss that opportunities.
Thanks in advance for your help. Oli |

Six or eight beers each day?
That person should be attending AA meetings - not cruising around on freighters. |

I only registered with this interesting site a matter of minutes ago and am in the process of 'surfing' the forums. In doing so, I can't help being amused that - in response to a question about sea-sickness - it was suggested that 'there is more movement on a sailing ship'. Well, that's a relief - in every sense of the word.

Is it possible for a person that is in a wheel chair, cannot walk - zero use of arms and legs - to travel on a freighter if they have two helpers?
Thanks Glenn |

Hi Maaike and Edwin,
We're currently doing what sounds like a similar trip to you guys and have made it to India from the UK without flying but we're now struggling to get to SE Asia. We were planning on going to the Andamans and then just trying to get on a yacht/dive boat heading back to Thailand but as it's cyclone season we've been told that there probably won't be any boats doing this journey at the moment. Did you manage to find a freighter or do you have any other advice for us? Thank you! Carly and Euan |

Hi! There are freighters from Barcelona to the US. I am guessing you cannot commit ahead to a firm date if you are sailing over.
I suggest you also contact The Cruise People (London Office). If you find a shipping line that has frequent sailings you can get all paperwork and fees taken care of in advance (with a cancellation policy in place). Then it would be possible to get you onboard with short notice. They will work with you. It is necessary in today's world to have documents signed and medical clearance in advance. There might be a time lag but Spain is a fine place to wait! Good luck in the sail! |

Hello,
This is a very interesting forum. Thank you to those who maintain it. I'm going to be sailing from the US to Spain one-way this summer. Instead of catching a flight home, I'm considering taking a freighter back. I'd like to be able to come back pretty directly and also soon after reaching Spain. In a perfect world, we'd pull into port and I'd unload my gear from the sailboat and load it on the freighter and head back directly to North America. How often do freighters leave? How likely is it that I could catch a freighter within a few days of landing in Spain? I suppose that I could take the Eurorail to somewhere else in order to catch a freighter that's ready to leave. I've sent an email to Hamburg Süd already. Any other suggestions on who to contact or how to figure out if this is doable? Thank you, TMB |

I don't know what you mean by wanting to "charter." There are freighters from Europe to South America and cruise ships that are positioning. If you are wanting to work on board it is not likely you'd find anything. On cruise ships for example, you must train and sign a contract.
